Elderly Filipino Nutrition
In collaboration with Tufts University, Massachusetts, NCP conducted research into the dietary intake of Filipinos between the age of 60 and 88 years, living in rural communities.
Based on the total body Vitamin A levels of the 62 participants, NCP was able to determine an acceptable or sufficient dietary vitamin A intake for older men and women. For men the recommended daily intake of vitamin A (Retinol Activity Equivalents) was 500 ug (micrograms). For women the recommendation was 400 ug RAE/d. From the same dataset, we found that the participant's protein, energy and micronutrient intake ranged from 24 - 51% of the recommended dietary intake. The study was published in 2004. |
