Outstanding Health Research Award

The Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD)awards the Outstanding Health Research Award to study groups that demonstrate the link between heatlh research and utilization.

The Nutrition Center of the Philippines Food Fortification Study Group was awarded the 2005 OHRA Award for the Health Services Research Category for its work in demonstrating the feasibility and efficacy of food fortification with iodized salt, vitamin A fortification of margarine, vitamin A fortificaiton of flour and iron fortification of flour.

 

2005 International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS) Award

DR. FLORENTINO S. SOLON, President and Executive Director of the Nutrition Center of the Philippines (NCP), was awarded the prestigious 2005 International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS) award sponsored by the International Nutrition Foundation on September 21, 2005 in Durban, South Africa on the occasion of the 18th International Congress of Nutrition. This award is given by the International Union of Nutritional Sciences every quadrennium to an individual working in a developing country who has made outstanding contributions of regional and global significance to nutrition.

Dr. Solon is only the sixth – but first Filipino – recipient of this Award. The award citation reads, “Dr. Florentino S. Solon is a gifted leader, compassionate physician, inspiring mentor and internationally-acclaimed nutritionist dedicated to the health ad welfare of mothers and children of the world. His development of foods for preschool, school emergency feeding and of innovated nutrition education materials have been major contributions to nutrition security in the Philippines. He has introduced effective programs and policies for the welfare of mothers and children in the Philippines that have been widely promoted by international organizations and benefited the programs of other nations. The applied nutrition training programs of the NCP in collaboration with the United Nations University and the University of Queensland have spread his influence world-wide.”

Catholic Mass Media Award for Best Public Service Advertisement (Television) for Nutrition Campaign “Phase III”

Given by the Catholic Mass Media Awards in March 1986 in recognition of NCP’s sustained efforts of promoting nutritional values of common foods sources in a manner that appeals to young and old alike.
